The Tebe Taye Swiss Water decaf is an Ethiopian coffee that gives you nearly the full flavor profile of a fully caffeinated premium coffee.
Ethiopia Tebe Taye Swiss Water Decaf
Tebe Taye is a premium decaf that brings a lot more flavor to the table than your run of the mill decaffeinated coffee. Look for some notes of berry as well as a hint of sweet floral goodness. Low on your palate, you’ll likely appreciate the touch of bittersweet chocolate that complements the berry sweetness quite well. Unlike some Ethiopians, this isn’t a very light roasted coffee. We call it a medium roast and if you are so inclined, it does present itself as a good option for espresso.
This coffee comes from two different washing stations in Ethiopia’s Uraga and Yirgacheffee regions – Tebe Haro Wato and Taye Gedo. (Hence the Tebe Taye name on this coffee.) There, farmers grow most of the coffee at high altitude (2000 meters). So, you get a flavor-forward cup without the bitterness some lower-altitude coffees present.
How Do They Take the Caffeine Out?
Processors use the proprietary Swiss Water method to remove the caffeine from this Ethiopia Tebe Taye decaf coffee. That company, Swiss Water, processed this particular lot in their Vancouver, British Columbia facility using their chemical free process. (They only utilize water, temperature and time to remove 99.9% of the coffee’s caffeine.) You’ve probably heard of “swiss water” before. It’s quite common among the coffee community today. You’ll see it frequently — right along with the ethyl acetate process used by some other premium decafs.
