A dark-roasted Java grown coffee that still offers a touch of brightness and creamy mouthfeel – that’s what you get with this Blue Sunda semi-washed.
Java Blue Sunda Tasting Notes
This is a really pleasant coffee with a lot to offer for espresso drinkers too. We taste dried cheery, a touch of cola creaminess, dark chocolate and pipe tobacco earthiness along with a hint of citrus zest up top. It’s dark-roasted and delivers what we’d classify as a medium amount of acidity for coffee – far less than many light roasts but perhaps a touch more acidic than some dark roast coffees.
About Blue Sunda
This coffee comes from Indonesia, specifically the Blue Sunda Estate. You’ll find the estate at about a mile above sea-level. This makes it a true “high-altitude” bean. We typically associate high altitude coffees with more pleasant, less caffeinated taste profiles. At Blue Sunda, the terrain is so mountainous and steep, they don’t use four wheel drive vehicles as part of their harvesting fleet. Instead, they use scooters!
Producers come up with about 80-90 tons of Java Blue Sunda coffee each year. They grow their crop on a 50 hectare plantation. This particular semi-washed coffee features both Typica and Ateng varietals of coffee beans.
This is a true “Java,” meaning it comes from the region of the world first associated with the slang term most of us now use for “coffee”. This region also goes by the name Region Preanger, West Java.
Excellent coffee, bright and very enjoyable. I great go-to dark coffee.
