Organic Sumatra Aceh Tasting Notes
This is wet-hulled coffee, which means this dark roast doesn’t have the “dirty” finish that you might associate with most darker coffees. When we drink it, we pick up notes of dark chocolate with a distinct baking spice. There’s also a red current sweetness that accompanies a touch of sweet pipe tobacco with green pepper on the top of our palates.
About the Sumatra Aceh Growers
Small-scale family farmers grew Sugarwood’s Organic Sumatra Aceh coffee. They grew and processed this specific parcel of coffee using organic agricultural practices. That means means grown without the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers and certified by an internationally recognized organization.
What is “Wet-Hulled” Processing?
Wet-hulled processing uses water to take off the coffee cherry’s pulp along with the parchment later. As a result, the coffee dries faster. That’s beneficial in a tropical/wet climate like you’ll find in Indonesia. The end result is a Sumatra coffee with its signature intense earthy flavors of cedar and tobacco, as well as rich, sweet chocolate.
